Eva Onita Jay, age 105, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Wichita County Long Term Care in Leoti, Kansas. Eva was born November 30, 1907 in Dalhart, Texas, the daughter of Roy & Nellie Fearing Hornish. She was a 1927 graduate of Bucklin High School and attended one year of classes at Southwestern College. She taught school in Ford County for six years, moving to Wichita County in 1942 where she lived in the previous Lydia Post Office/Creamery, attended Lydia Methodist Church in rural Wichita County serving as Sunday School Superintendant until 1961, when they moved into Leoti. They continued to farm until 1972, retired and began wintering in Arizona.
Eva was a member of the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas.
On November 30, 1933 she married Fred Jay at the Hornish family home in Bucklin, Kansas. Fred passed away on October 7, 1992 at Ulysses, Kansas.
Eva's surviving family includes-
Two daughters-
Beverly & Dick Zobel- Wasilla, Alaska
Bessie & Jim Young- Wichita, Kansas
Two daughter-in-laws-
Lou Jay- Great Bend, Kansas
Mary Jay- Scott City, Kansas
Fifteen grandchildren, Twenty-one great grandchildren and Four great great grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, four brothers, two sisters, and two sons, Wilbur Jay & Max Jay precede her in death.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, February 18, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas with the Reverend Mike Howard officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas.
Friends may call from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm Saturday and from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas in care of the funeral home.
