Edythe Mae Spiker, age 79, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. Edythe was born in the family sod house in Cheyenne County, Kansas near Bird City on September 25, 1938, the daughter of James & Rose Mae (Seitz) Pettit. A resident of Leoti, Kansas since 1963 moving from Goodland, Kansas, she held Badge D-1 as dispatch for Wichita County Sheriff’s office.
Edythe attended the First Baptist Church in Leoti, Kansas and held memberships in The Rebakah Lodge and Red Hat Society, both in Leoti, Kansas.
In 1955 she married Robert Spiker at Goodland, Kansas. He passed away in 1992 in Leoti, Kansas.
Edythe’s surviving family includes-
Three sons-
Steve Spiker- Leoti, Kansas
Tim & Bonnie Spiker- Lynnwood, Washington
Robert & Valerie Spiker- Bellingham, Massachusetts
Three siblings-
Peggy Ketzner- Shawnee, Kansas
Patricia Hill- Hays, Kansas
Jim Pettit- Denver, Colorado
Ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren
Her parents; a son and his wife, Brian & Mary Spiker; one brother, Eldon Pettit; a sister-in-law, Caroline Pettit and a brother-in-law, Jim Ketzner precede her in death.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Leoti, Kansas with Pastor Gary Salmans officiating.
Burial will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery near Bird City, Kansas.
Friends may call from Noon until 8:00 pm Monday and from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the Museum of the Great Plains in Leoti, Kansas in care of the funeral home.
