Edwin S. Hooper, age 93, formerly of Garden City, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at his home in Wichita, Kansas. He was born December 22, 1918 in Rural Alta Vista, Kansas the son of Harvey J. and Nellie B. Newcomb Hooper. A longtime Garden City resident, Ed moved to Wichita in 2004. While in Garden City he was best known for being a partner in the Lewis, Hooper & Dick Accounting Firm.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Finney County Historical Society, Friends Of The Lee Richardson Zoo, Friends of the Sandsage Bison Range and was a 50+ year member of the Kiwanis Club. He served on several local boards and committees, including the original board of Trustees for the Garden City Community College.
On May 29, 1941 he married Ethel Mae Munzer in Alta Vista, Kansas. She died May 19, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas.
Survivors Include:
One Brother, Oscar W. Hooper of Salina, Kansas;
One Sister, May A. Swartz of Abilene, Kansas;
Five Grandchildren and Ten Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jim Hooper, a daughter, Carla Domitz and a brother, Vernon Hooper.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Kansas.
Friends may call from Noon-6:00pm on Sunday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.
Interment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the Church or the Sandsage Bison Range both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City, Kansas.
