Garden City, Kansas Ed Thiessen, age 90, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on June 21, 1917 in Inman, Kansas the son of John E. and Anna Siebert Thiessen. A 1938 Inman High School Graduate, he earned an Associate Degree at Salt City Business College. He was a resident of Garden City since 1946 having moved from Norristown, Pennsylvania after serving in the Civilian Public Service during World War II. He had been a farmer for 61 years and a Mennonite Mutual Aid Insurance Salesman from 1952-2001. He was a charter member of the Garden Valley Church, a member of the Lions Club & Sunrisers Kiwanis, all of Garden City. He served on the boards of the Garden Valley Retirement Village from 1970-1991, Finney County Extension, Farm Bureau, Garden City CO-OP, and Southwest Kansas Board of Health. On November 11, 1944 he married Erma Friesen @ Hutchinson, Kansas. She survives. Other Survivors Include: Two Daughters, Suzanne (& Larry) Wiens of Newton, Kansas and Cynthia (& Joe) Knight of Roseville, California; One Son, Douglas Thiessen of Garden City, Kansas; Four Sisters, Ann (& Clarence) Penner of Ingalls, Kansas, Helen (& Eldon) Schmidt of Hillsboro, Kansas, Menda Kliewer of Inman, Kansas and Martha (& Albert) Loewen of Newton, Kansas; Eight Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Garden Valley Church in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. Marion Heisey presiding. Burial will be at the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 10am-8pm on Friday, January 25, 2008 at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas. The family requests memorials be given to the Ed Thiessen Memorial Fund for Garden Valley Retirement Village in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
