Dorothy A. Warner, age 94, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 @ St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born February 3, 1912 in Emporia, Kansas the daughter of ElRoy and Alta Hultz Diggs. In 1942 she and her husband settled on a ranch near Kalvesta where they were very active in the community and were leaders in the Pawnee Valley 4-H Club. Dorothy spent long hours helping her children get ready for county fairs, supervising baking, canning, sewing and with room improvement projects all to help her children hone their skills which led to numerous purple ribbons at the fair. She also insisted that her boys learned how to cook. Majoring in Home Economics @ Kansas State University gave her a fine eye for detail in raising children and running her home. She felt that music and art education was important enough that she would drive 50 miles to Dodge City for classes. In 1958, they moved to Garden City and she had full responsibility of the children while her husband worked on the ranch. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed playing pitch on the farm where she belonged to an all-day pitch club that met once a month. The children delighted in these meetings as stories about their antics were shared and still live on.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City where she assisted her Circle with many funeral dinners. She and her husband supported the wrestling team and enjoyed traveling the world in their retirement years, sharing trips with friends and clubs. She began china painting classes and took up quilting and bridge. To this day, the family is comforted by the quilts and many pieces of china she prepared for them.
On August 13, 1938, she married Carl S. Warner @ Westmoreland, Kansas. He died January 6, 2003 in Garden City, Kansas.
