Leoti, Kansas Doris M. Siemens, 88, passed away on May 27, 2014 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. Doris, the daughter of Henry B. & Katherine Wall Gerbrand, was born March 2, 1926 at Buhler, Kansas. On May 24, 1947 she married Melvin Siemens at Buhler and moved to Wichita County, Kansas, where she was a teacher, farm wife and homemaker. Doris was a graduate of Sterling College at Sterling, Kansas, and taught music and English in Wichita County schools for 25 years. She also taught piano for more than 10 years. Music was an important part of her life. She was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Church but, not finding this denomination in the Leoti community, was active in the Leoti Baptist Church and later Carwood Community Church (Parks). Doris played organ and piano, directed choir, taught Sunday school and VBS, and participated in many other ways. She spent many hours in prayer and her faith was an inspiration to family and friends. Doris is survived by her husband, Melvin Siemens of Leoti; three children, Stanford Siemens of Nixa, Mo, Peggy & Jerry Gillen of Leoti, and Rosalyn Robinson & Mark Miller of Topeka, Ks; five grandchildren, Levi & Clarissa Gillen of Overland Park, Ks, Lucas & Sunny Gillen of Leawood, Ks, Gabriel Siemens of Springfield, Mo, Alison & Jeremy Lee of Joplin, Mo, and Lindsey Siemens of Chicago, Illinois; and seven great grandchildren, Nicholas, Parker & Kylie Gillen of Overland Park, Asher & Andrew Gillen of Leawood and Julia & Grant Lee of Joplin. Doris was preceded in death by both parents and her sister, Mildred Ediger. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Carwood Community Church (previously Parks Presbyterian Church) 9 miles north and 5 miles west of Leoti, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in Carwood Cemetery north of the church. Memorials may be given to the Carwood Community Church Hearing Impaired Equipment fund in care of Price & Sons funeral Home, PO 161, Leoti, Kansas 67861.
