Clelia Elaine Towns, age 92, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. She was born February 16, 1916 in Byers, Kansas the daughter of Donald R. and Emma C. Wasson Brown. A resident of Garden City since 1971 moving from Northern Haskell County, Kansas she was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City where she was a Past President of the United Methodist Women. She also belonged to the Social Order of the Beauceant and was Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She taught at the Pleasant Valley School from 1936-1938. The one room school house she taught in is currently located at the Lee Richardson Zoo. On April 23, 1938 she married Vern L. Towns in Sublette, Kansas. He died April 2, 1983 in Garden City, Kansas. Survivors Include: Three Sons, Donald V. Towns of Garden City, Kansas Jack LeRoy Towns of Caddo, Oklahoma and Gale L. Towns of Houston, Texas; Two Daughters, Melva E. Smith of House Springs, Missouri and Carol Beth Dick of Grand Rapids, Michigan; One Brother, Virgil Brown of Shreveport, Louisiana; Two Sisters, Mildred Leatherbury of Hutchinson, Kansas and Erma Skinner of Branson, Missouri; Thirteen Grandchildren, and Several Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Kansas with the Rev. David Bell presiding. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas Friends may call from 1:00-8:00pm Thursday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas. The family requests memorials be given to the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or to the Alzheimer's & Dementia Association both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.
