Scott City
Carl Gerald Kasten, age 86, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at the Parklane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on March 25, 1924 in Latimer, Kansas, the son of Charles & Lola Smith Kasten. A resident of Scott City since 1956 moving from Council Grove, Kansas he had been the Manager for the Duckwalls store from 1946-1986.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served on several committees; was a former city councilman for 16 years serving as mayor for eight of those; was a past commander of the VFW of Council Grove and the American Legion of Scott City; was the first Cub Scout Master of Pack 77 and the Masonic Lodge both of Scott City and the ISIS Shrine Temple of Salina, Kansas and he was a WWII US Navy veteran serving on the USS Arneh in the South Pacific Theater.
On October 5, 1947, he married Dorothy M. Potter in Russell, Kansas. She survives.
Other Survivors Include: Three Sons, Gerald L. Kasten of Skandia, Michigan, Donald H. Kasten of Wichita, Kansas and Larry B. Kasten of Sharon Springs, Kansas Eight Grandchildren and Seven Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas.
Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.
Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City and from 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
The family requests memorials be given to the Church or to Camp Lakeside both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.
