Berneice Jean "Bonnie" Gilmore, age 80, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Emporia, Kansas. Born June 9, 1931 at Lucas, Kansas, the daughter of Charles E. & Annabelle Mastin Schneider. She attended Fairview Grade School and Lucas High School in Russell County, Kansas and later graduated from Asbury Hospital School of Nursing in Salina, Kansas in 1952. It was in Salina that she met her future husband, Melvin Gilmore. Bonnie worked as a Registered Nurse in both Wichita and Greeley Counties for twenty years. In 1972 she ran for the office of Wichita County Clerk, was elected and served from January of 1973 until her retirement in June of 1995. She also served as a State Officer in the Kansas County Clerks Association. Bonnie was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia, Kansas and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City, Kansas. On June 22, 1952 she married Melvin Gilmore at the United Brethren Church in Lucas, Kansas. They moved into their new home near Leoti, Kansas in 1953 and into Leoti, Kansas in 1959 where she resided until 1995, then moving to Emporia, Kansas. Melvin passed away in June 12, 1988 at Leoti, Kansas. Bonnie's surviving family includes- Two daughters- Marian Gilmore- Emporia, Kansas Susan & David Mai- Emporia, Kansas Granddaughter- Erin Mai- Jerusalem, Israel Many Nieces and nephews Her Parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City, Kansas with the Reverend Warren Prochnow officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas Memorials may be given to the Melvin & Bonnie Gilmore Scholarship fund in care of the funeral home.
