Garden City, Kansas Ben J. Timmerman, age 87, died January 2, 2016 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. He was born on March 15, 1928 in Summner, Nebraska the son of Ben Erving and Dora Bell Bradt Timmerman. Ben Served in the United States Army Airforce as a Sargent in World War II. He worked as a Radar Mechanic Instructor during his two years of faithful service to his country. Ben Worked on his parents farm in Eddieville, Nebraska, where he lost his fingers and 1/2 thumb in a corn picker, and he put up steel buildings and grain bins. After leaving the farm he went to work in Carrol, Nebraska at the ordinance plant for about two years as an engineer, Following that he moved to Grand Island and worked at Sears - TV Repair for two years. Then he moved to Overton to work for Plectron Corporation for 18 1/2 years. Following working for Plectron Corporation, Ben took a job with IBP in Garden City until he changed his job to work for Freedom Electric of Garden City. After Freedom Electric, Ben started his own business called Tim’s Electric until he retired. On June 3, 1951, he married Barbara J. Ryther. This marriage ended in divorce on June 30, 1964. On June 10, 1967 he married Grace Flossie Gabbert in Lexington, Nebraska. She survives. Other Survivors include: Five Children - Beth J. Berry of Fremont, Nebraska Billy J. and Cathy Timmerman of Olathe, Kansas Beverly J. Pugh of Plattsburg, Missouri Ben J. and Jane Timmerman of Elwood, Nebraska Noma G. and Michael Blansett of Holcomb Kansas 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two Brothers; Irving Timmerman, and Donald Timmerman; two sisters, Faye Lashley, and Doris Atkinson. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Bible Christian Church in Garden City, Kansas. There will be no calling times. Memorials are suggested to the Ben Timmerman Memorial Fund in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home; 620 N. Main St. Garden City, Kansas 67846. Private Family inurnment will be held at a later date in Valley View Cemetery.
