August Luebbers

August Phillip Luebbers, age 93, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on December 6, 1930, in Marienthal, Kansas to August C. and Beata Kreutzer Luebbers. As a lifetime resident of the community, he was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council. He was also involved in the Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau Board, USD 467 School Board, Senior Center Board, SWKAA Sub Region 3 board, SWKAAA Board of Directors, and the Silver Haired Legislation.

On May 24, 1955, August married LaVerne M. Kuehler in Sharon Springs, Kansas. She passed away on May 28, 2022, in Leoti, Kansas.

Survivors include his four sons, Jerome & Darla Luebbers of Leoti, Kansas, Dennis & Mary Sue Luebbers of Hutchinson, Kansas, Bill & Marilyn Luebbers of Scott City, Kansas, Tony & JaLene Luebbers of Garden City, Kansas, two daughters, Berta & Hugh Binns of Scott City, Kansas, Bev & Tim Smith of Paola, Kansas, two brothers Don Luebbers of DeRidder, Louisiana, Jerry Luebbers of Rainer, Oregon, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Omer “Boots,” Pete, Hans, three sisters, Lenora, Edith, and Donna, and a granddaughter, Annie.

The vigil service will be on Friday, October 25, 2024, at St. Mary’s Church in Marienthal, Kansas with Father Benjamin Martin presiding at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Marienthal on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with Fathers John O’Neil and Benjamin Martin presiding. Services will be live-streamed at www.priceandsons.com or https://evt.live/luebbersservice. 

Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Marienthal, Kansas.

Visitation will be at Price and Sons Funeral Home, 202 North 4th St, Leoti, Kansas, on Thursday from 11:00 to 8:00 and Friday from 10:00 to 5:00.
