Arthur Robert McCowan, age 98, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. Art was born November 14, 1914 at Pretty Prairie, Kansas, the son of Jesse & Maude Shockley McCowan. A resident of Wichita County since 1930, he was a farmer.
Throughout his life, Art was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Leoti, Kansas, serving in most of the church administrative offices. He was also active in Wichita County administration, serving as Wichita County Commissioner from 1951-1955 and from 1959-1963. He was also a member of the Wichita County Historical Society, Museum of the Great Plains and the Wichita County Municipal Golf Course. He served on the first Soil Conservation Board in Wichita County as well as Past Presidents of the Wichita County Farm Bureau, Wichita County Extension Council and the Wichita County Park Board.
On September 15, 1940 he married Eva Wilhelmina Kuhlmann at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Lydia Township of rural Wichita County. Eva passed away on November 24, 2010 at Wichita County Long Term Care in Leoti, Kansas.

Paula & Bob Leazure- Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Five grandchildren
Rhonda Schwindt, Renee Strayer, Brenda Ridder, Chris Scheel and Jared Scheel
Four Great grandchildren-
Addison Ridder, Brooke Strayer, Megan Strayer and Cayden Scheel
His parents, two brothers, Morgan McCowan and Ross McCowan and six sisters, Marie Baty, Mary McCowan, Alma Sargent, Rosa McCowan, Ruby Downs and Leota Mallech precede him in death.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Leoti, Kansas. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas.
Friends may call from Noon until 8:00 pm Saturday and from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Wichita County Amusement Association or Wichita County Senior Citizens Center in care of the funeral home.
