Alma Proudfit

Alma Lenora Proudfit, age 88, died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at her daughters home in Plano, Texas. She was born October 6, 1921 in Tecumseh, Kansas the daughter of Martin S. and Charlotte E. Price Pressgrove. A resident of Garden City, Kansas since 1946, moving from Emporia, Kansas, she had taught Home Economics at Emporia State University and at Garden City Community College. She later taught at the Garden City High School and at Abe Hubert Middle School and in 1948 she built their home with her own hands. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, UMW, TOPS Club, the 20th Century Book Club, the Bell Choir and the Finney County Senior Center all of Garden City, Kansas. On September 21, 1940 she married Ernest G. Proudfit in Topeka, Kansas. He died December 21, 2007 in Garden City, Kansas. Survivors Include her Three Daughters - Ann Crans of Plano, Texas, Marilyn Proudfit of Garden City, Kansas and Janet Porter of Newton, Kansas; One Sister - Alice Odom of Simsboro, Louisiana; Five Grandchildren and Five Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a Son, Bob Proudfit, 2 Brothers, Martin & Dale Pressgrove and One Sister, Mina Teagarden. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, June 26, 2010 @ the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. David Bell presiding. There will be no calling times at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. The family requests memorials be given to Focus On The Family in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
