Albert Bernard Biel, Jr. age 93, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. Albert was born December 21, 1926 on the Biel family homestead near Marienthal, Kansas, the son of Albert B. & Ida ( Kreutzer) Biel, Sr. A lifetime resident of Wichita County, Jr. enjoyed a satisfying, simple life of farming and raising a family on the homestead until moving into Leoti in 1994. Jr. was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas, serving on the Building Committee of the present church. He served his country in the United States Army with the 1st Calvary Division, primarily in the Japanese theater from March of 1945 until his separation in November of 1946. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Marienthal, Kansas, and the V.F.W. of Garden City, Kansas. On October 21, 1952 he married Johanna Kessler at Marienthal, Kansas. Jr.’s surviving family include his wife - Johanna Biel of Leoti, Kansas, his children- Ron & Verla Biel, Stan & Sherry Biel, Bonnie & Perry Owens and Delores & Delmer Hembree all of Leoti, Kansas. Thirteen grandchildren, Twenty-three great grandchildren and two step grandchildren, his brother- Eugene & Billie Biel and sisters, Marquerite Berning and Kathryn Berning both of Leoti, Kansas. His parents, a sister, Doris Mayer and brother, James Biel precede him in death. Vigil services will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, February 13, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Friday, February 14, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas with Father Tim Hickey officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army Funeral Honors Detail from Fort Riley, Kansas. Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday and from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the Leoti EMT’s or the Museum of the Great Plains in care of the funeral home.
