Leo Lindley Meeker, age 91, died Monday, August 3, 2009 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas following a short illness. He was born June 18, 1918 in Pawnee County, Kansas the son of George L. and Bertha M. Hewson Meeker where he grew up farming. The family moved to Garden City Kansas in the early 1930's and then he and his wife, Jean, moved to Dighton in 1941 where he continued to farm. In 1990 he retired and moved back to Garden City, Kansas.
He was a member of the Methodist faith and was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, gardening, playing Black Jack and mostly traveling with and spending time with his family.
On December 8, 1940, he married Jean S. Cooper in Garden City, Kansas. She died on September 8, 2005 in Garden City, Kansas.
Survivors Include: Two Daughters, Brenda J. Meeker-Janik of Henderson, Nevada and Ronda G. Bolding of Garden City, Kansas; One Brother, George W. Meeker of Homer, Alaska; One Grandson, Simon R. Bolding of Manhattan, Kansas; One Granddaughter, Brooke L. McMillan of Garden City, Kansas and One Great-Grandson, Preston H. McMillan of Garden City, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Carl Alton Meeker.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, August 6, 2009 @ the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas with the Rev. Kenne Whitson presiding.
The family requests memorials be given to the Homestead Assisted Living Residents Activity Fund in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City or Scott City.
