Garden City, Kansas Jack L. McAtee, age 73, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on April 23, 1935 in Marysville, Kansas the son of Claude E. and Mattie Mae Brourhard McAtee. He had been a resident of Garden City since 1953 moving from Marysville, Kansas. He graduated from Garden City Community College in 1955 and worked for Woolman Construction for several years, later owning and operating Jack McAtee Construction. He was a member of the Christian faith, the Kansas National Guard from 1956-1964, the Eagles Lodge, the Elks Lodge, the Patriot Guard Riders, the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He was a board member for both the Friends of the Lee Richardson Zoo and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organizations. He donated blood over 61 times for the American Red Cross. Jack was passionate about helping people and making a difference in their lives. He was a past Scout Leader for the Santa Fe Trail Council and donated building materials and volunteered hundreds of hours working with the pinewood derby and other woodworking projects including Mandan Camp in Dodge City. He especially enjoyed working with handicapped children and helping organize Cub Scout day camps. Survivors Include: One Son, Brett McAtee of Phoenix, Arizona; One Daughter, Suzette Rose McAtee of Denver, Colorado; One Sister, Sally Rampy of Waco, Texas; One Grandchild, Peter Quinn of Denver, Colorado and Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Quinn and 9 Brothers and Sisters. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Community Congregational Church in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. Mike Lake presiding. There will be no calling times. Inurnment will be held at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the Community Congregational Church Park, the Friends of the Lee Richardson Zoo or the Santa Fe Trail Council all in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
