Garden City, Kansas Donald Keith Roper, age 84, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on February 19, 1924 in McCune, Kansas the son of Ralph & Clara Stainke Roper. He attended schools and graduated from high school in Atlanta, Kansas in 1942. A resident of Garden City, Kansas since 1961 moving from Ellis, Kansas he was retired and had worked for Texaco, Inc. for 40 years. He was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church and was a WWII US Navy Veteran serving in both the European & Pacific Theaters. He belonged to the VFW and the American Legion and was a lifetime member and Past Master of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge #246 all of Garden City, Kansas. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Knight Templar York Rite Mason and was a noble of the Midian Shrine of Wichita, Kansas. On February 2, 1945 he married Edith T. Jung in New York City, New York. She survives. Other Survivors Include: One Son & his Wife, Stephen & Connie Roper of Fort Collins, Colorado; One Daughter & her Husband, Marilyn & Brad Rine of Wichita, Kansas; One Sister, Ruby Sanders of Odessa, Texas; Four Grandchildren, Brett A. Roper of New York City, New York, Jennifer D. Roper of Fort Collins, Colorado, Rebekah E. Rine of Wichita, Kansas and Mallory A. Rine of Wichita, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Two Brothers, Gene Stainke and Laurel Roper and One Sister, Ruth Burk. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Garden City, Kansas with Pastor A.J. Striffler presiding. Friends may call from 10:00am-8:00pm Monday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas. Interment will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis, Kansas. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the St. James Lutheran Church in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
