Scott City
Clarence Albert Turley, age 86, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 17, 1923 in Gove County, Kansas, the son of Robert Alfred and Mary Alma Borst Turley. He was a farmer, former teacher and was Logan County Sheriff from 1969 until retiring in 1989. He had been a resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1992 moving from the family farm in Logan County, Kansas.
He was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Oakley, Kansas and the Kansas Sheriffs Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was very generous to those in need.
On July 30, 1950, he married Marthanell Mary McGuire in Hutchinson, Kansas. She survives.
Other Survivors include: One Daughter, Janet (& Jim) King of Scott City, Kansas; Two Brothers, William James Turley of Wakeeney, Kansas and Ralph LeRoy Turley of Ava, Missouri; One Sister, Elsie Lee Wren of Murrieta, California; Three Grandsons, Chandler (& Penny) of Snoqualmie, Washington, Dr. Corbin (& Heidi) Stevens of Scott City, Kansas and Curtis (& Theresa) Stevens of Salina, Kansas; One Granddaughter, Cristalyn (& Nathan) Kirchoff of Sublette, Kansas; One Granddaughter-In-Law, Dustie Stevens of Scott City, Kansas; Two Step-Granddaughters, Richelle (& Mark) Stroup of Derby, Kansas and Audra King of Gentry, Arkansas; Ten Great-Grandchildren, Catherine, Savannah & Wyatt Stevens of Snoqualmie, Washington, Makaelea, Sawyer & Brinlie Stevens of Scott City, Kansas, Sierra & Jessalyn Kirchoff of Sublette, Kansas, Hunter Stevens of Scott City, Kansas and Emmalina Stevens of Salina, Kansas; Three Step-Great-Grandchildren, Austin & Tyler Stroup of Derby, Kansas and Jake Sullivan of Gentry, Arkansas He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a Grandson, Brannon Chayston Stevens, Two Brothers, Robert Arson and Earl Alfred Turley and Four Sisters, Gertrude Cleo Turley, Estella Fay Cranmer , Vanna Grace Hatler, and Dorothy Marie Blume.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas with the Rev. Jeff Knighton presiding.
Burial will take place in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.
Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.
The family requests memorials be given to the St. Catherine Hospital Benincasa House in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.
