Clyde Howard "Bud" Rowton, age 86, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on October 3, 1922 in Leoti, Kansas, the son of Clyde John and Ada Marie McDaniel Rowton. A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1945 after serving in the United States Marine Corp during World War II. Bud was previously a farmer and owned and operated Bud's Vickers Service, A&W Drive-In, Bud's Auto-Teria in Scott City and B&L Car Wash in Leoti, Kansas. He also sponsored the Vickers women's softball team for many years. Bud was a member of the United Methodist Church of Scott City, a Life Member of American Legion Post #183, VFW Post #7773, Scott City Shrine Club, and Anthem Masonic Lodge #284 all of Scott City. He was also a member of FOE Eagles Lodge #3124 of Garden City, Kansas, ISIS Temple AAONMS of Salina, and a charter member of the Club 100 of Scott City. On March 25, 1950, he married Laura Jean Farmer Stewart of Tribune, Kansas at the United Methodist Church in Syracuse, Kansas. Other Survivors include his children: Betty (Fred) Wilken of Derby, KS; Chuck Rowton of Scott City, KS; Susan (Phil) Escareno of Garden City, KS; and Becky Rowton of Derby, KS. His grandchildren include Darin (Lanie) Wilken of Springfield, MO; Denise Young of Overland Park, KS; Ty Rowton of Kansas City, MO; Brian Rowton of Scott City, KS; Becca (Eric) Clower of Collinsville, OK; Ryan (Lori) Escareno of Garden City, KS; Beau Harkness of Garden City, KS; Jeremy (Karrie) Wray of Great Falls, MT; Darci (Brett Berry) Thon of Garden City, KS; and Courtney (Josh) Young of Leoti, KS. Fourteen Great Grandchildren also survive, as well as half sisters Carol Thomas of Wichita, KS, and Mickey Duncan of Dodge City, KS; and half-brother Bob Elder of Dodge City, KS. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde John; mother, Ada Marie Rowton Elder, step-mother, Mary Rowton; half brothers, Hershal Elder and Fred Elder; sisters Josephine Farr and Wanetta Farr; and step-brother, Milton Lewis. Funeral Services will be at the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 with Jeri Farmer Smith presiding. Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church Or Scott County Shrine Club Traveling Fund % of Price & Son Funeral Home in Scott City. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City.
